During my Christmas break I was advised by my lecturers to start visiting galleries and exhibitions so, me and one of my friends decided to visit The Vulgar: Fashion Redefined Exhibition at the Barbican.
The Barbican was built between 1965 and 1976, on a 35-acre site that had been bombed during the World War II.
One thing I loved about the outside of the building was all the water around it. The water fountains made the place look heavenly during the evening.
Potent, provocative and sometimes shocking, the word vulgar conjures up strong images, ideas and feelings in all of us. The vulgar exhibition is the first exhibition to explore the challenging but utterly compelling territory in fashion.
The Vulgar showcased over 120 stunning objects, ranging from historical costumes to couture and ready-to-wear looks, with contributions from leading contemporary designers such as ChloƩ, Sophia Kokosalaki, Vivienne Westwood, Elsa Schiaparelli, Maison Martin Margiela, Court Mantua, Viktor & Rolf, Christian Dior, Givenchy, Gucci and Louis Vuitton.
I highly recommend this exhibition because it was honestly great. Garments which were designed with great detail by designers with great collaborative minds. If you're a student The Barbican discount 10% off of your ticket (which is always helpful - so don't act boujee and forget your student card!).
